Dante, Landino and the mystery of poetic inspiration at the heart of a European evening combining theatre, dance, ancient books, and local heritage

THURSDAY, AUGUST 20, 2026 | PIAZZA SAN ROCCO, BORGO A MOZZANO
The Municipality of Borgo a Mozzano presents “O immaginativa – Dante, Landino and the mystery of poetic inspiration”, scheduled for Thursday, August 20, 2026, in Piazza San Rocco, in front of the Municipal Library. The event is part of the “Borgo è Bellezza” festival and constitutes a significant milestone of the European project EUMyst, promoted by the Municipality of Borgo a Mozzano alongside the Ayuntamiento de Rafelbunyol.
EUMyst was created to foster dialogue between two European communities through a shared heritage of stories, legends, archives, symbolic locations, and popular traditions. The project transforms mystery into a language of cultural participation, capable of bringing citizens, associations, schools, and young people closer to the memory of their territories and building new relationships between Italy and Spain.

A cultural bridge with Rafelbunyol
During the evening, a live connection with Rafelbunyol—the Spanish partner of the project—will take place to share the significance of the initiative and strengthen dialogue between the two communities. The European dimension will also be highlighted through the reading of excerpts from the Divine Comedy in Spanish, accompanied by the projection of the texts in both Italian and Spanish on the facade of Palazzo Santini.
This connection will represent an initial public moment of exchange and participation between the involved territories, anticipating subsequent EUMyst activities and emphasizing the value of European cultural cooperation as a tool for mutual understanding, inclusion, and active citizenship.

Borgo a Mozzano’s book heritage takes center stage
At the heart of the event will be the precious copy of the Divine Comedy printed in 1493 and preserved in the ancient Fondo Librario Pellegrini, a collection comprising over five thousand rare books dating between 1493 and 1930, housed at Palazzo Santini, the seat of the Municipal Library.
This 15th-century edition, accompanied by the famous commentary of the Florentine humanist Cristoforo Landino, will offer an opportunity to explore the relationship between Dante, the interpretation of the poem, and Spanish culture. Landino's commentary experienced significant circulation in the Iberian Peninsula and became a key reference for the reception and translation of the Comedy in Spain.

Theatre, dance, and community participation
“O immaginativa” will be an immersive cultural experience built through period readings, theatrical performances, dance, projections, and animations curated by local cultural and artistic organizations. The direction is entrusted to Margherita Paoli; the Spanish readings will be performed by Sean Bertolacci. Participating actors include Giulia Checchi, Dimitri Papini, Davide Gennai, Antonella Lipparelli, Marinella Andreoni, and Serena Bertei, alongside the dance company of the Ossessione Danza association from Borgo a Mozzano, with choreography by Nicoletta Nivelli and Astrid Lucchesi.

The initiative involves the Dante Hypermedia Laboratory of the University of Pisa, the Lucchese Historical Institute – Borgo a Mozzano Section, the Fratelli Pellegrini Municipal Library, local associations, and collaborating entities. Furthermore, EUMyst activities will engage students from the Borgo a Mozzano lower secondary school, who are invited to participate in workshops and pathways dedicated to the community's stories, mysteries, and landmark locations.

From the Pellegrini Collection to the Devil’s Bridge
At the end of the show, a medieval banquet will be offered, curated by the Fattoria Le Luci farm of Borgo a Mozzano and the “Cuore” Community Cooperative of Motrone and San Romano. This will be followed by a guided tour of the ancient Fondo Librario Pellegrini and a walk toward the Devil’s Bridge, a symbolic landmark of Borgo a Mozzano and a central reference point for the narrative identity of EUMyst.

Through Dante, Landino, and the mystery of poetic inspiration, Borgo a Mozzano and Rafelbunyol are embarking on a shared path where literature, memory, performance, and participation become tools to build lasting bonds between territories and citizens.

Free admission. The event will take place according to the schedule published by the Municipality of Borgo a Mozzano.
